bookshelves and beauty lamps

Hi,
We’ve been hard at work on the parts of making a record that have nothing to do with sound. Just the normal stuff. We spent 4 days covering a room in maps. We hired a photographer. We bothered the pressing plant a lot (we’re going to bother them more) and we bought a ton of red Chinese new year envelopes. Now we wait for a bunch of boxes to get delivered to Plaza Records—our safe haven, practice space, and harbor of semi-useless esoteric knowledge. NEW COLONY will be available digitally very soon. Check back here or on our Facebook page for that date. We’ll be getting back in the swing of playing shows very soon as well. Here’s what we have so far:

  JULY
* Saturday, 27 - Skihaus w/ Autonomy, North Korea 666, Nones [Benefit for Julianna Campbell]
* Monday, 29 - WBDX radio performance [Rock with the Ox / 91.1 fm]

AUGUST
*Saturday, 9 - John Brown's on the Square
[the second and final time we perform The Beatles' HELP in it's entirety]
* Friday, 16 - Hangar 9  w/ William Feigns, Jenny Johnson

SEPTEMBER
* Thursday, 5 - PK's w/ The Copyrights, Heat Tape [Carbondale Rocks Revival Festival]

Here's a promo spot for the record, the first of many, made at 4am.

Lawrence of Euphoria

Thanks to everyone who came out to our Record Store Day show. Playing the whole Help album was the manifested dream of our 8-year-old selves. We resumed being in a band this week and played our own songs for the first time since the March tour. It was refreshing to not have to sing as well as the damn Beatles.

Here is our current list of upcoming shows. Many more to be announced soon. Extensive tour plans once NEW COLONY is in our hands.

CHICAGO, IL -- Saturday, April 27
The Observatory w/ Landmarks, Twin Peaks, and Coffin Ships

CHAMPAIGN, IL -- Sunday, May 5
The Velvet Elvis w/ Shadows on a River + special guest

CARBONDALE, IL -- Wednesday, June 5
Skihouse w/ Exwife [NJ], William Feigns

MARION, IL -- Friday, June 14
John Brown's on the Square w/ Han Ma and the Cameros

CHAMPAIGN, IL -- Saturday, June 15

Future Daze

Hi,
Here's an updated list of shows we have coming up. Thanks to everyone who came to see us with Minor Characters last night. They were great and we became fast friends (anyone who will allow me to talk about Tom Verlaine that much is alright in my book). We're working hard on getting NEW COLONY out. Sit tight. Dustin Houston is hard at work on some insane visuals for the song below ("Money Well Spent"). We're going to have the second pressing of our S/T record shortly. We're also working on setting up a film where we play our songs live in front of people. I don't think anyone has ever done that before. Ever.

You're a star, baby,
David / Secondary Modern

NEW COLONY

Hi,
We've been fine-tuning a batch of new recordings done with our good friend and aural adviser, David Allen. We have some shows in the works. We have even more songs leftover from the last few months which we're going to sit on and think about for a bit. This record has already taken shape. We're most likely going to call it New Colony. Here's why:
There is a world where the people worship the loudest, most despicable men and chastise the gentle and the artistically ambitious. We live there. The word artist is met with shitty, turned-up mouths. Smug, toothy grins between lips chapped red by the light from the television. Laugh. Pretend it was a joke. We don't talk about that here, we remember. It's the sort of colony where you can find pleasant, isolated little pockets of this or that if you want to cross the treacherous, land-mine-filled jelly doughnut of a walking path. Generations and generations of destroyers kicking builders in the guts with their designer boots.

It's hard to ignore, so we made a record about it.

More news as we have it,
David / Secondary Modern

Rally hats at the pub n grub...

Sitting in a bar, stranded in a storm, drinking beer for lack of something better to do, I am reminded that there are extreme amounts of downtime while touring. Raleigh, NC is a very rainy place today. Nevertheless, we're playing a show at Slim's Downtown tonight. Spirits are high dispite the gloominess of the weather. I expect that we will be unable to remember how our own beds felt by the end of the week. That will be nice. We'relooking forward to the show tonight, but in the meantime we present the question of the day:

Is there any goddamn thing to do in Raleigh, North Carolina during the day?

We won't know this trip,
David
