Alright...here are our tour dates.
As you can see, we get off to a spotty start here. We're still trying for a few last minute things. We'll be taking a small PA with us. That way we can play your velvet acid after party when the show's over, or we can set up in the lawn of your college and see how long it takes us to get arrested while you watch from your window and (perhaps) swoon. The possibilities are endless. Let's all take a moment to drink to the possibilities. If you can help us fill some of these gaps, please do. These tours don't get booked by some guy in an office. This stuff happens because we do it ourselves. Thanks to everyone who has helped us thus far. We can't wait to see you. Updates as they occur...

[get some sleep] |
A lot has been happening. We are fully in the swing of playing a lot of shows now. This is going to continue. Thanks to everyone who came out to our show at John Brown's on the Square on Friday. Many of you were also at our show Monday at PK's. That didn't go unnoticed. While, I really wish Hollows hadn't had an automotive mishap on the way to play with us, I was elated during the Flowers of Evil set.
Here are some links to relevant happenings in the world of our band:
[1] Our fifth record is, as you may know, completely finished, pressed to vinyl/cd and available for your consumption. You can get one at our mail order store or at wholesale price (if you run a record store) through the Chicago-based distributor Carrot Top, LTD. You can also download it on iTunes or get a copy at one of our shows, which we will discuss presently.
[2] Here is a list of upcoming Secondary Modern shows. For the extended tour section of this list we have left off the venues as it is not 100% booked. Don't fret. A lot of it is confirmed. We know what we're doing and we'll be there (and we'll keep you posted).

Also, our pal Dustin Houston is in the process of filming a video for our song "Plastic Bags / Destroying a Piano". So far it is extremely weird and we couldn't be happier. Here is a shot of our friend and neighborhood father-figure Jeff dressed as a bag lady. That's just a taste.

Okay then,

a rough guide to a future you can touch
Hi,
We've been hard at work while you were asleep. Our record is on its way. Pressed to some colored vinyl! Artwork by our very own Matt McGuire (we'll post that soon). We'll have it available for the first time at our show on June 1st at John Brown's on the Square. Gon' be real nice.
In the meantime, you can listen to the whole thing for free right here. You can also download the digital version on iTunes and other major internet stores. Hopefully that tides you over until you can have that wax in your hands.
UPCOMING SHOWS:
Thursday, May 17 @ Hangar 9 w/ The Pirouettes + Han Ma and the Cameros
Friday, June 1 @ John Brown's on the Square [Marion, IL]
We're also in the process of booking a nearly month-long tour of the east coast and midwest. If you'd like to help us out, email secondarymodern (at) hotmail (dot) com and we'll send you the route. We can also send you promo stuff to help promote the new record. Hit us up!
In other news, Matt just finished a film project with our buddy Dustin Houston. It's a short, sort of/kind of really trippy piece about the life of a screen print called "Naked Screen". The soundtrack is great too. Here's a link to the teaser. Hopefully the whole thing will be online soon. (also, a DH-produced stop motion video for our song "Plastic Bags / Destroying a Piano" is in the discuss-over-cigarettes phase. Look for that in the future.)
Welp...that about does 'er...wraps 'er up,
David / Secondary Modern

I now declare this bridge open.
Today we travel to the middle of nowhere to finish recording our new album. I suppose it's customary to be excited about whatever is being worked on at a given time, but I think these recordings are easily the best we've ever put to tape. David Allen has done a wonderful job making every strange, left-field idea that the three of us blurt out work perfectly. (Dave, you're also a much weirder guy than most give you credit for. This is a good thing. We have felt right at home.) Hopefully this record makes you stare at your speakers like a dog, or laugh like when you hear the Beach Boys at an empty gas station on a rainy morning, or remember your favorite date in history. I can't wait to play it for you.
The name of this record is still under review. The tracks are, in no particular order (and subject to exclusion), as follows:
1. Marketing Ploy
2. Scott Walker Records
3. Clean Black Coats
4. Plastic Bags / Destroying a Piano
5. Shtriga
6. Blank Host
7. Building Things to Scale, Daniel
8. Bombs Away
9. Count Your Lucky Breaths
10. Red Sea Jive
11. Athena
12. Ghosts in my Parents' Hallway
Until we meet again,
DB

I thought ya'll was getting' signed
hello. good afternoon.
recording is in our near future. new record. new approach. moody pop music has been an interesting road to travel for a couple of years. now we think we'd like to sharpen up this knife and do something a bit more raw and hands-off. local mustachio david allen, who just nailed it with the new black fortys record, will be at the helm this time around while the three of us actually focus.
view halloo. warn the dogs.
